Welcome Tar River Basin members to another year of adventure.

First, I would like to thank Jesse for his time as the TRB President and as I take over for 2010 let me tell you what I would like to see happen this year.

I would like to see our main objective be getting our membership up this year. We held an Officers meeting in January and came up with ideas on how we could see this happen.

Mike is going to get up with MC's around our area that we can go to and give them information on what we are about and that we are all fighting the same fight. We also discussed taking our social night and hitting up the bike nights in the areas surrounding Wilson. We need everyones participation to succeed in this goal.

Second, I would like to see us get more involved in the MSAP program. This is a great program to promote safety on motorcycles.

As we get our Eastern district Swap Meet  and TRB Gun Raffle together please lets not lose focus on our objectives for 2010.

I hope everyone has a safe, healthy and productive 2010.

We are out in numbers now riding the streets and the season is in full swing.  Our poker run/gun raffle was a huge success on May 30, 2009.  I want to thank all those members who went above and beyond to make this event such a success.  I won't name you all but you know who you are and I thank you again.  The food was good, the band was great and a good time was had by all.  The frozen tee shirt/boxer contest was fun and Mike looked cute in those undies.  I still can't believe my wife actually got a tattoo.  Gary and Robbie - thank you for helping her out.

The Onslow County Vietnam Veteran ride in Jacksonville is tomorrow, June 13th.  Anyone interested in going with us, we are meeting at Bojangles in Snow Hill at 8:00 a.m.

We have had several riders go down in the past few weeks and we have to be ever conscience and to ride defensively.  Ride Safe My Friends.

Welcome Spring and Let's Ride!  We have had some really nice riding days and then again, some very wet days.  Saturday at the Guardian Brotherhood poker run, a bunch of us got wet riding home from Hero's in Goldsboro.  I'd like to say welcome to our newest members and to say thank you to all of you who renewed for another year.  It was nice to be the winner of the attendance money and good luck to the next winner.  Don't forget - those interested in learning more about MSAP, Rita Spaulding will be at our house at 7:00 pm on April 17, 2009.  Hope to see you there.  Bike Fest is coming up at the Outer Banks on April 23 - 27th and we will be staying at the Manor House.  Come on down and enjoy the festivities.  Plans for our gun raffle/poker run are well on the way and sales of the raffle tickets are going good.  Debbie & Linda are trying to get the best prices available for our tee shirts and I want to thank them in advance for their hard work.  As far as I know, we will have shirts for sale well before our gun raffle.

In Memory of a Fallen Brother

August 31, 2008

Clifton Lewis Jackson, better known to all of us as Cliff, a brother and a friend will be missed by all of us.  I meet Cliff about four years ago and the first words out of his mouth was, "how you doing brother."  Cliff seemed to be a natural people person and never had a bad word for anyone.  He was a funny guy, always had a joke to tell or laughing about something.  That was the Cliff we all knew and loved.  Cliff is in Gods hands now singing, laughing and looking down on us to make sure we are doing okay.   It would appear that we all have a guardian angel watching over all of us.  Be at peace my brother.

Presidents Corner

So sorry it's been some time since my last letter to the chapter but I would like to do a recap of the last few months. Our gun raffle and poker run went well.  We made some strides to make it perfect and the longer we do it, the better it will be.  There were around several chapter members at easy rider this year but not as many vendors as last year.  We picked up one renewal and one new couple from our membership booth that we had set up this year.  We had a good time talking to different people and seeing some things all through the weekend, some strange, some not so strange but if you have ever been to easy rider then you know what I'm talking about.  The toy run at Carolina Billiards was a successful run.  Many door prizes were won by our members.  Our upcoming mountain ride should be load of fun.  Linda and I are really looking forward to it.  The ballots to vote for the new State President will be at the chapter meeting 8/20/08 at Fat Boys.  I would also like to let you all know that we will be having nominations for chapter officers at our 9/17/08 meeting, so you all might want to give some thought to who you want to run the chapter next year.  We will vote for chapter officers at the 10/15/08 meeting and the new officers will take the chapter over on 1/1/09 until 12/1/10.  Ok, I just want every body to remember to ride safe have a good time and enjoy the rest of the summer.

 THE RIDE TO THE WALL

On Saturday, May 24, 2008, seven members of Tar River Basin Chapter left Wilson, NC to join in on the Rolling Thunder ride to the Vietnam memorial wall in Washington, DC to pay our respects to the fallen heroes that gave their lives to protect the American way of life. When we arrived at the north parking lot at the Pentagon at 9:30 a.m., the only thing we could see were all thousands of motorcycles.  It was estimated that there were around seven hundred thousand motorcycles in all. This trip always gets a little emotional for some of us knowing that all gave some and some gave all.  There are fifty-eight thousand and forty names cut into this wall of honor.  Even so, don't forget there are thousands of men unaccounted for and they also need to be brought home with honor and have their names put on this wall of honor.  On the trip back, we stopped at the Marine Corp museum which was a nice surprise for me.  I had never been there and it brought back a lot of memories for me since I was in the marines during the Vietnam War about a hundred years ago and I want to thank Gary Woodring our road Captain, for asking if I would like to stop.  Thank you, Gary and everybody that went to the wall on Memorial Day, it was nice to share some of my memories with friends.
